E.D. Education and Support for Couples

Keeping a relationship happy and healthy can be hard.  Keeping a relationship happy and healthy when one of the partners falls ill or is injured seems almost impossible.  Feelings of shame and guilt, of impatience and anxiety are hard enough on their own but when they are added to or caused by a physical problem, they can become insurmountable for even the most loving couples.

The Lighthouse-Le phare offers couples the opportunity to learn how to support each other in difficult times.

Our group is…

We are proud to offer a support group for couples living with relationship or health troubles related to erectile difficulties. Our participants are men with ED and their intimate partners. They are of all ages, sexual orientation and cultural backgrounds.  The group aims to provide support, education and hope for couples who are experiencing compromised sexual intimacy because of erectile dysfunction.  We use examples from everyday couples, our own kind regard for each other and lots of humour to help our couples find a level of intimacy and sexual communication that is satisfying, enriching and leads them to joy.

You are…

A patient living with hypertension, cardiac issues, diabetes or obesity and experiencing some ED

A patient about to undergo surgery for cancer of the prostate

A patient recovering from prostatectomy

A concerned partner who notices changes in the couple’s sexual intimacy possibly due to ED

A patient with erectile problems due to previous priapism or penile injury

A couple wishing to understand a man’s later-in-life changes affecting their sexual relationships

A couple wanting to improve their sexual connection after an illness or injury

Eating For Mental Health Learning and Support Group

** Please note, LAST DAY TO REGISTER: January 31, 2021

Recognizing the mind-body connection, this group will focus on two aspects of healing your relationship with food, weight and body image. We will rely on science and practical knowledge to offer impactful changes you can make with your daily nutrition and activity, and psychology to identify and understand what deep-seated issues (for example old wounds, trauma, limiting beliefs, ongoing stressors) have contributed to your struggles and stand in your way of success on your terms.

Each week, we will be focussing on one attainable change you can make and build upon, and providing you with the knowledge, tools and resources you need to be successful on your mental and physical health journey.

In addition to the coaching, teaching and support of the leaders, the group format is designed to offer a safe space to share experiences and offer peer support as you work to redefine and heal your relationship to food, moving your body, and ultimately yourself.

In order to facilitate group cohesion and emotional safety and trust, participants commit to attending all 8 meetings. Our goal together is to create a safe, trusting, therapeutic space. Your presence and insights matter, and as such, the more you participate in group exchanges, the more you and fellow group members will benefit.

This group will be offered online, and facilitated by Patty Baird of Conquer the Unhealthy You and Natalie Carrière, RP at the Lighthouse - Le Phare. It will run for 8 weeks, Sundays from 1:00 to 2:30pm, starting on February 7, 2021. Fees for the 8 weeks are $380+ HST, due upon registration to confirm your spot. Receipts signed by a registered psychotherapist will be issued upon completion of the 8 weeks, and may be eligible for insurance reimbursement (please confirm eligibility with your provider). Space is limited to 15 participants. Please register early to reserve your seat!

Mindfulness-Based Chronic Pain & Stress Management

Given over two weekends, this course is for adults who live with chronic pain, illness or stress.

Mindfulness-Based Chronic Pain Management (MBCPMTM) is a program developed by Dr. Jackie Gardner-Nix, a physician and University of Toronto associate professor, who has worked as a chronic pain consultant for many years at University of Toronto pain clinics, including at St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Canada. It is based on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) originated by Jon Kabat-Zinn in the USA several decades ago, and has been developed into a trauma-sensitive programme that is more customized to the needs of those dealing with chronic pain or stress.

Dates to be confirmed, from 9:00am to 4:30pm.

You will learn the principles of mindfulness meditation, the importance of living in the moment, and the power of now, and how these relate to decreased symptoms and pain, and less suffering. Mindfulness assists in remaining calmer with symptoms and pain being controlled despite the challenges of everyday life, such as when interacting with family, friends, colleagues, employers and insurers. This can change the intensity of pain and suffering, both emotional and physical, in a very positive way. Life skills are also enhanced in this course.

Cost: $525 + HST, includes workbook and Jackie Gardner-Nix' book The Mindfulness Solution to Pain (2009). Receipts issued, and cost may be eligible for coverage by your private insurer. Please confirm with your provider. Registrations paid in full before January 15 receive a 10% discount, and before December 31 receive a 15% discount.

A minimum of 10 participants are required to run the course. Spaces are limited. Consistent attendance is required to remain in the course.
